Pre-Verification for a National Title Corporation
Evaluating GHG Inventory Readiness
At the time, the corporation managed its GHG inventory internally and engaged Cameron-Cole to conduct a pre-verification assessment. The review evaluated inventory boundaries, emissions categorization practices, supporting records, and overall inventory structure to identify potential gaps before formal verification.
The review found that refrigerant emissions were not currently included in the inventory, creating an opportunity to improve inventory completeness and support future reporting requirements. One key finding also involved natural gas emissions from leased locations, where Cameron-Cole identified an opportunity to develop a more consistent methodology for determining whether emissions should be reported as Scope 1 or Scope 2 based on operational control.
Several recommendations from Cameron-Cole were provided to address these findings, including formalizing operational control procedures, incorporating refrigerant emissions into the inventory, conducting periodic lease reviews, and improving inventory organization and recordkeeping. The engagement concluded with a presentation summarizing findings, potential risks, and recommended next steps, giving the client a clearer understanding of its inventory and opportunities to improve future reporting efforts.
Results and Deliverables
The pre-verification assessment provided the corporation with actionable insight into its GHG reporting program and identified practical steps to strengthen inventory management and reporting processes.
Key deliverables included:
- Pre-verification assessment of the GHG inventory and reporting framework
- Review of inventory boundaries, methodologies, and emissions categorization practices
- Identification of opportunities for improvement related to operational control, refrigerant reporting, and inventory organization
- Recommendations to strengthen data management, recordkeeping, and next-step processes
By identifying opportunities before a formal verification engagement, Cameron-Cole helped reduce future verification risk and establish a roadmap for improving inventory efficiency, strengthening reporting practices, reducing time spent resolving verification issues, and potentially lowering future verification costs.
